Republic Day Celebration – 26.01.2009 Our 60th Republic Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervor and enthusiasm. Our National flag was hoisted by our Ashram Secretary Dr.V.Ragupathy at 8.30 am. It was attended by all the teachers, Ashram workers, trainees and students. In his special address he narrated the freedom struggle of our honorable leaders and how India is unique in its culture and tradition. He appealed to the younger generation to safe guard the hard-won freedom. | ||||||||
There was a procession along Kallupatti main streets, in which Higher Secondary students, Kumarappa Vidyalaya Trainees, Teachers, and Ashram employees participated. Students raised slogans in praise of Mahatma Gandhiji and our Republic.
A meeting was conducted in the auditorium, which was presided over by our Secretary Dr.V.Ragupathy . Additional collector Dr.Darez Ahmed,IAS was the chief Guest of the function Ashram President Dr.Venkataswamy gave his welcome address over the phone and he participated in the function through skype. Dr.Ragupathy then introduced the chief guest. Additional collector Dr. Dr.Darez Ahmed,IAS in his special address admired and appreciated the students’ discipline, our prayer and response from students.
He recollected why Gandhiji was away from the capital on the day of Independence in 1947. Gandhi was not after wealth or power. It was in Madurai that Gandhiji gave up his traditional rich attire and switched over to his popular single garment, thus representing the poor Indian farmers. Dr.Darez Ahmed, IAS expressed his desire to be a student at Gandhiniketan Ashram. He was very much attracted by the peaceful and beautiful environment.
Cultural programmes like kummi and kolattam staged by our primary and Higher Secondary students. Two students from primary spoke about ‘Republic’. A hand-written magazine was released by the additional collector and the copy was received by Mr.Mahendran Usilampatti D.I. with the vote of thanks by Mrs.R.Rajeswari H.M, the function came to an end.
Six groups of teachers, students and Trainees celebrated Republic Day in six villages, Muthulingapuram, Ammapatti, Thevankurichi, Kollaveranpatti and Mangammalpatti, along with the villagers. They conducted meeting awareness programmes, planted trees and staged cultural

GANDHINIKETAN STAFF MEETING
Combined meeting of the staff of the both the Schools, Dr JC Kumarappa
institute in the Ashram was held on 12th January at 9.30 am at
Gandhimandapam.
President of the Ashram Prof R.Venkataswami conveyed the greetings from
management for a happy
new year for the entire staff.
He explained the genesis and history of the Ashram. He detailed the role of
the Founder in the growth of Ashram from 1940 to 1969 till he passed away.
He also narrated the sacrifices made by great leaders and constructive
workers like the Mr A Vaidhynatha Iyer, Mr NMR Suburaman, Mr.Thavasi Naidu,
Mr R Guruswamy Nadar, Mr K Munniyandi and Mr R V Guruswamy. He mentioned
that many philanthropists have helped our institution during the last three
years and he complimented the staff for their valuable contribution to the
institution. He appealed to them to give their best for the growth of the
institution. The meeting ended after introducing the new teachers to the
audiences.

Our Annual
Sports Day was celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm on 10.01.2009. The
celebration started at 8.30 am with prayer. Ashram President Prof.
R.Venkataswami presided over the function. Students from various houses like
yellow, green, blue, red, brown and white along with NSS, Scout and Red
Cross volunteers conducted a march past. Our president received the guard of
honour and declared open the meet. National flag was hoisted by our president
followed by Olympic flag by Mr.Vishnu Das, Headmaster, Govt. High school
Gopinaikanpatti, Ashram flag by Thiru.S.P.Ramasamy former Headmaster of our
Higher Secondary School and School flag by Mrs.V.Radha our former Assistant
Headmistress. Then Olympic Torch was brought with honours and the Olympic
fire was lit by our honourable committee member of our Ashram Dr.V.Sivarani.
It was followed by a number of field events and track events. Students
participated eagerly and enthusiastically in all events. The ground was
filled with colorful children running and flying like butterflies and deer
every where. Winners of all the events were called to the victory stand then
and there and prizes and certificates were distributed to them by the VIPs
and teachers.
It was very thrilling to see the young children, both boys and girls cover
the distances just in seconds. All eyes were fixed on the players’ wonderful
performance. It was really a fabulous and fantastic show.
Our primary school also joined with us . Though they came as spectators of
the sports day celebration, they were also given chance to participate in
the celebration. Separate events like 100 mts dash and sack race were
conducted exclusively for the primary students and winners were given
prizes.
Usilampatti District Educational officer Thiru.Vishnuprasath honoured us
with his august presence in the evening programme. Evening events included
Open to all 1500 mts running race, VIP lucky corner, 400 mts fast walk
competition for both lady-staff and gents-staff separately. There was an
active participation from all sides.
Our Headmistress Mrs.R.Rajeswari welcomed the gathering in the valedictory
function at the end of the programme. Our president advised the students to
show more interest in sports and games because a sound mind is possible only
in a sound body. He also explained how sports has become a great profession
today which will help the students to lead a very successful life. DEO
advised the students to strive hard to get maximum marks in the forthcoming
exams and he gave his own prizes to the top three rank holders of X and XII
Std. Mr.V.Kandasamy Physical Director presented the annual report. All five
PETs were honoured with ponnadai and their services were appreciated.
One of our students Selvi. Pavithra performed silambam, our traditional folk
art. Various types of pyramids were staged and everybody appreciated and
applauded their artistic presentation.
With the vote of thanks by the Assistant Headmistress Mrs.P.Thilagavathi,
the celebration came to an end by 5.30 pm
