Maths Club-04.07.2009 

            In our School Maths Club meeting was conducted on 04.07.2009 Mr.Thenkarai Muthu Pillai enriched our programme as a chief guest. In this programme our chief guest explained many easy ways to do the sums without much effort. And he has introduced some original techniques for the maths students.   The students who have participated observed the programme with keen interest.  Totally, the programme was very useful to both the students as well as to the staff.

 

Educational Tour

113 plus two students along with seven teachers went on an educational tour for two days. The enthusiastic group started its journey on 06.07.09 at 4.30 am from Gandhimandaam in two comfortable buses. It reached sinthalakkarai by 7.00 am. Students were wonder-struck to see the gigantic statues of god perumal resting on five headed Naga and Vekkaliamman. After refreshing ourselves we worshipped them. Then we reached Panchalankuritchi, the famous historical place of kattabomman. After visiting his fort, Jakkamma temple and ruined palace, we had our break fast there. From there we moved towards Tuticorin. In the harbour there we were lucky enough to watch the loading  and unloading in ships. Our next destination was Tiruchendur. After worshipping lord murugan and enjoying the sea-breeze we proceeded to kanyakumari. Due to bad weather sun set and sun rise were not  clear. We visited Kanyakumari amman temple, Gandhi Mandapam, Vivekananda Rock, . Next day our main visit was to the science centre in Tirunelveli. Students were thrilled by the science exhibits 3D films and planetarium. It was very educative and entertaining. We returned safely on 07.07.09 by 9.00 pm to Ashram.

Kamarajar Birthday - 15.07.2009

   
           
     

Kamarajar birth anniversary was observed as literacy development day on 15.07.09 at 9.15 am in our school. A meeting was conducted in the auditorium which was presided over by the headmistress Mrs.R.Rajeswari. Three students spoke about Kamarajar as a simple man with high thinking he was an uneducated genius. He toiled hard for the upliftment of down –trodden society. Then Mrs.R.Vaigai, Tamil Teacher narrated interesting anecdotes from his life. He was very humble and full of love for the poor. His humanitarianism was explicit in all his actions. Prizes were distributed to the winners In the competitions conducted regarding this function Thiru.R.Janagaraj proposed vote of thanks. With national anthem the function came to an end at 10.15 a.m.

   
                   
     

English Club- 18.07.2009

       
                   
     

Our English Club conducted its inaugural meeting, for this academic year, on 18.07.2009 at 3.00 p.m. Our Headmistress presided over the function. Dr.G.Baskaran M.A.,M.Phil, Ph.D, Reader in English, V.H.N.S.N College, Virudhunagar was the chief guest. The meeting started with the prayer.

 Mrs.P.Thilagavathi A.H.M welcomed the gathering. The chief guest spoke on "The Basics of Communication". He advised the children to listen carefully so that they can improve their vocabulary and communicative skills. He also emphasized them to ask questions whenever possible. Reading, practice and writing can enhance their communication skills. Students listened carefully and they enjoyed his lecture.  

N.Poongodi, VIII-C, R.Karthiga IX – A, narrated moral stories. M.Devayani VII.B, R.Abirami VII-C, S.SriPandiselvi IX – A recited poems. XII.Std students enacted a drama  "Julius Ceaser".

A quiz programme was conducted, in which IX, X std students participated. Team ‘B’ won the prize. Prizes were distributed by our chief guest. Mrs.D.Malarselvi proposed vote of thanks. Inter School Competitions-23-07-09

As part of our founder’s centenary celebrations, Inter school competitions were conducted in our GNGVHSS. 220 Students from seventeen schools in Usilampatti Educational District participated in the competitions. The central theme of the day was “Gandhian Principles and Gandhian Way of Life”. Four dramas were enacted on the theme and the best two bagged the first two prizes. Everyone appreciated & realized the total involvement of the students when  they came with tonsured heads to act as Gandhiji. There was overwhelming response to other competitions like Oration, Music, Essay writing, Drawing and Special Talents also. Nearly thirty students participated in each one of the competitions. Special talents programme consisted of two different parts. Some students exhibited their scientific innovations and some others exhibited their special talents in traditional folk arts like Karagattam, Kavadi and Silambam. Their performance was greatly appreciated and applauded by the viewers.  

Judges from other schools and GNGVHSS selected the best performers. Prize winners received their prizes in the centenary celebrations held on 30.07.09 from Thavathiru. Ponnambala Adigalar. All the participant schools were also given mementoes. All the 220 participants received either prizes or prizes and certificates of participation. The entire school was in festive mood on 23.07.09. Volunteers from NSS, JRC, Scout, Guides and Green Crops guided other schools to their respective venues and regulated everything to ease the heavy schedule of the day. Refreshment and lunch were provided to the outside participants.

Science Exhibition-24.07.2009 -  25.07.2009

A week long activities  of our founder’s centenary celebrations included Science Exhibition on 24th and 25th of July. All classes from Gandhi Niketan G.Venkatachalapathy Higher Secondary and Primary School participated in this mega event. Neighbouring  schools like Pappunaikanpatti, SKV Hr. Sec. School and PKN Boys Hr. Sec. School, Thirumangalam also enthusiastically joined us. Dr.J. C. Kumarappa Institute of Village Industries and Rural Technology had exhibited its own products in  large numbers. The spacious auditorium was shared by the school physics department and  Dr. JCK Institute. Many working models were exhibited. Pottery section prepared instantly artistic mud pots, terracotta models that were not only interesting to watch but also inspired our students and the public. Flower pots, lamps, toys and bells attracted the on lookers. They have displayed mouth watering food items like tasty pickles, jams and juices. Number of experiments carried out to prove Boyles law, Law of conservation of energy and the law of conservation of momentum in physics were thrilling to watch. Ten more class rooms were allotted for other departments like Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Languages, Arts, History etc. All the exhibits were educative and informative. It clearly showed the scientific bend of our students. It was very interesting to note the tiny tots from primary school, bubbling with enthusiasm, holding the attention of the viewers with their remarkable explanation of their invaluable exhibition. Nobody could avoid or escape their watchful sight, without paying attention to them. 

With the active support of Dr. Iyamperumal, Executive Director of Tamilnadu Science and Technology Centre (TNSTC) and the Vice-chairman of Science City, Chennai the exhibition was inaugurated on 24.07.2009 at 10.00 a.m. by Thiru. Alagiri Raju, Project Director, Anna Science and Technology Centre, Trichy. Ashram President Prof. Dr. R. Venkataswami presided over the function. TNSTC organized & displayed a mobile science exhibition unit with a number of science exhibits and also brought a planetarium which provided a lot of information about the sky and   stars that formed the centre of attraction for students.  

Apart from our Higher Secondary and Primary Schools, other nearby schools also visited our exhibition. Teachers from other schools appreciated the earnest efforts of the students and teachers in organizing such a mega exhibition successfully.

Cultural Festival-28.07.09

On 28.07.09,  Cultural Festival was celebrated in a grand manner. Tamil Nadu Art and Culture Department joined hands with us in our Centenary Celebrations. Art and Culture Department Secretary Dr. Irai Anbu IAS arranged for two-weeks training in traditional folk arts like Karakattam, Silambattam, Kavadi, Kolattam and Oyilattam by talented artists. Hundred and twenty students underwent a vigorous training in these arts for fifteen days. They enthusiastically learned the knack of the arts. Dr.Jegatheesan, Regional Assistant Director, Department of Art and Culture, Madurai evinced keen interest in this programme. Inspite of his busy schedule, he visited us several times and instructed the Master-artists Kalaimamani V.Velu, Thiru.A.Appanasamy, Thiru.M.Rajendran, Thiru.Sakkaravarthi, Tmt.Palaniammal to make full use of the allotted two weeks time to mould the children as fine-artists. We owe him a lot for his strenuous efforts to make this programme a great success. When the students staged their performance on 28.07.09,every one was wonder-struck. We could not believe our own eyes. We doubted if they were our amateur students or original artists. They were so perfect and enthralling.  Three hours programme seemed to have ended in minutes . All the audience – Students, teachers, parents and visitors were spell–bound. Especially the Kavadi Attam mesmerized one and all.  Master–artists were honoured with ponnadai and Training certificates were distributed to them.  Kavinjar  Devendra Poopathi, Assistant Commissioner  Commercial Tax, Madurai was the chief guest of the day and he delivered key note address. He also offered a chance to our student artists to share the stage, in Madurai during Book Festival, Our President Prof. Dr. R.Venkataswami emphasized the need to nurture the traditional arts and culture. Our Usilampatti District Educational officer Thiru. Vishnu Prasath advised the students to make good use of the golden opportunities given to them. Kallupatti local cable TV video graphed everything and the whole programme was telecast twice during the week.

Centenary Celebration-30-07-09 

Gandhiniketan Ashram has been celebrating our honourable founder G.Venkatachalapathy Ayya’s centenary  year from 30.07.08.  Through out the year many special programmes were organized to mark the occasion.   Concluding ceremony was celebrated for one long week, including inter school competitions, science exhibition, cultural festival and finally the grand function on 30.07.09.          

The function started  with a special Prayer at 6 a.m. in Mani  Mandapam. Ashram President Prof. Dr. R.Venkataswami and Secretary Dr. V. Ragupathy gave special message about our founder.           

At 8.45 a.m,  Ashram flag was hoisted by our founder’s close friend Thiru R.V.Duraisamy. He also reminded us of our founder’s great selfless service to the society especially to the downtrodden.  This was followed by a bhajan in Shanthivan and a floral offering in our founder’s samadhi. 

In the meeting that was held at 10 a.m. in the auditorium, Thavathiru Kundrakkudi Ponnambala Adigalar and Star Health Insurance Chairman Thiru. Jegannathan were the Chief Guests. Gandhian followers, local administrative officers, doctors, teachers, Parents along with our students attended the function.  The function was presided over by our Ashram president Prof. Dr.R.Venkataswami. He welcomed the guests and  gathering and expressed our joy that we were fortunate and blessed to have Adigalar with us on that day.           

Thiru. V. Jegannathan appreciated the students for their harmonious prayer and good discipline. He set a good model to our students by explaining how a simple man from a remote village with untiring  efforts helped  him to achieve this present high position. He was very  generous  &  offered to donate ion to our Ashram.           

Thavathiru. Adigalar highlighted the remarkable features of our founder. His astounding intelligence was explicit in his elegant speech. His  scholarly oration mesmerized not only the public but also the students. He showered blessings on us and distributed prizes and mementoes to the  winners and participants of centenary celebration competitions.  Ashram secretary Dr.V.Ragupathy presented the annual report Joint secretary Thiru.R.Nagarajan proposed vote of thanks.
