Deepavali celebration – 15.10.2009 A meeting was conducted in the auditorium to commemorate the importance of the Deepavali function. Mr.M.Palanichamy, retired Tamil teacher, narrated stories from our epics to remind us how Deepavali was celebrated in our ancient time to mark the victory of good over evil. The death of Narahasura in war with Beema , meant the freedom of innocent people from the clutches of the great Asura. So people began to celebrate that day as the happiest occasion, lighting lamps and distributing sweets to their friends, relatives and neighbours. We also celebrate the day with new dress and crackers. |

Dr.Sudha Seshan Addressing the Students through

|
On 30.10.2009, after the
community prayer, Dr.Sudhaseshan
addressed us from Chennai, through telephone. She
started her speech quoting Mahakavi Bharathi and how his dreams have come
true now. Bharathi sang that, sitting in kanchi we would be able to listen
to scholars speaking from She
compared students with flowers. Like flowers who spread sweet fragrance and
please others with beauty, students should be good enough to help others in
all possible ways. They must inculcate good virtues and develop at least one
good habit a day. Dr.Sudhaseshan
advised the students to follow Pine Apple
technique to study their subjects. It is very difficult to eat the whole
pine-apple in one sitting. But it is easy to swallow the whole fruit in
pieces. Likewise instead of studying a very big portion in a single sitting, it will be easier to understand and study if
the lesson is divided into smaller units. To
emphasize the value of truth, She narrated a story about a thief, who vowed
to speak only truth and thus became a
minister and confidant of a king and how the then Minister of the kingdom lost
his job owing to his lies. She
also narrated a story from our epic about king Abarajitha who refused to let
Goddess Sathya to leave his country, though he let other Goddesses like
Goddess of wealth, wisdom and Justice. Because ‘Sathya‘ (Truth)
is the most valuable virtue to be possessed
by every one. According to Gandhiji “ Truth Is God” Our
government’s motto is “
Truth Triumphs ”. So all of us should speak only truth and nothing but
truth. She quoted examples from
Gandhiji’s life to stress the importance of truth. Her
speech lasted for nearly an hour. The audience, including mostly the students, listened carefully with open ear and mind.
Every one enjoyed the speech as it was very stimulating, motivating and
encouraging. |
