Gandhi Niketan Ashram was founded in the year 1940 by
the great Gandhian Sri.G.Venkatachalapathy who strived for the
development of Khadi & Village Industries in Rural India. As a member of
the All India Khadhi and Village Industries Board, he helped in the
establishment of the Khadi Gramodyog Vidyalaya in the year 1956 at our
ashram. The Vidyalaya was renamed as Dr.J.C.Kumarappa Institute Of Rural
Technology And Development in the year 1992 being the centenary year of
Dr. J.C.Kumarappa who spent his last five-years between 1956 and 1960 at
Gandhi Niketan Ashram.
Managed by the Gandhi Niketan Ashram , Dr.J.C.Kumarappa Institute of
Rural Technology and Development a Premier Rural Training Centre is
aided by Khadi & Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Micro, Small
and Medium Enterprises, Govt. of India. It has been conducting
multifarious training programmes under Khadi and Village Industries ever
since 1956. So far, the institute has trained more than 10,000 persons
both male & female in different trades. The beneficiaries are rural
youths, women, SC/ST, economically weaker section, handicapped &
ex-servicemen. The institute admits candidates from all over the country
in all the courses.
The candidates trained here work in State & Central Govt. departments
especially in Khadi & Village Industries Boards, Non-Govt.
organizations, and institutions certified by Khadi & V.I. Commission,
and also in private sector. Many are successful entrepreneurs providing
jobs to hundreds of artisans and youths in their area.
Besides the regular 35 courses, the Institute also organizes Special
Skill Development Programmes, Skill upgradation programmes and Hobby
courses on demand/need based. Staff training and orientation training to
the staff of KVI Board and KVI Intuitions are also conducted.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE TRAINING
Training is more practical and conducted
in real work environment. Though the training relates to imparting
specific skills for specific objectives, the development of whole
individual-Socially, Physically, Intellectually, Spiritually is given
equal importance. The candidates are trained in Gandhian atmosphere with
strict discipline. Imparting Knowledge in Govt. Schemes, Bank Loan
Schemes, Project preparation, Marketing etc., form part of training.
Guidance and counseling is also given for self-employment. Post training
follow up programme is undertaken. The persons trained here are self
disciplined self confident, dynamic, Sincere and hard working, loyal to
their organizations, good citizens to the country and helpful to their
fellow citizens.
AWARD
The Training Institute has received
Environment Agriculture and Rural Development Award 2000 from Indian
Merchant’s Chamber, Mumbai.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
As in the training programme schedule. Candidates with higher
qualification who aspire for self-employment will be given admission in
all the courses.
AGE LIMIT
Above 18 and below 45. For fee based (Non-stipendiary) courses – the
maximum is 50.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (Stipend)
All the candidates admitted in the stipendiary courses will be eligible
for stipend of Rs.800/- PM provided there is vacancy in the courses.
FEES
Registration Fees Rs.50/-., Tuition Fee Rs.100/-, Boarding Fee
Rs.800/-per month.
HOSTEL
There is a Separate Hostel facility for both Male and Female candidates.
Only Vegetarian meals will be served. The Mess charge is on dividing
system. The trainees should abide by the rules and regulations of the
Institute. The medium of Instruction is Tamil & English.
APPLICATION,
EXAMINATION & CERTIFICATE
Examinations are conducted at the end of each course both in Theory &
Practical. Successful candidates will be awarded certificates of KVIC,
Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Govt. of India.
Application with Bio-data, Photocopies of the certificates, Passport
size photo, and self address and stamped envelop should reach the
training centre well in advance. Application Form can be obtained from
the training centre on paying Rs.20/- in person or by post by sending
M.O. Rs.30/- .

LOCATION
T.Kallupatti is about 40 kms from Madurai Railway Junction. It is on the
Madurai – Rajapalayam/Tenkasi Road. There are regular State Transport &
Private Buses from Madurai Integrated/Mattuthavani Bus Stand. The
Training Centre is located in the premises of Gandhi Niketan Ashram,
